Our History

Angelo Civic Theatre is the oldest community theatre in the state of Texas. We are a nonprofit, volunteer-based theatre whose survival and success depend on the wonderful community we serve. And because of this, Angelo Civic Theatre is a vivid, living testament to the artistic spirit of the San Angelo people.

Angelo Civic Theatre traces its developmental roots from a dramatic society that was formed on November 21, 1885. This dramatic society’s first project was initiated to secure funds for a town clock. In 1950, upon the creation of the San Angelo Civic Theatre, a sustainable form of theatre was realized. In 1980, the theatre's Board of Directors raised the funds necessary to purchase and renovate the Parkway Theatre into a 230-seat theatre that continues as the Theatre's current home.

After 136 years, ACT has survived economic recessions, two world wars, and two pandemics.

Our Venue

Angelo Civic Theatre seats 216 patrons and has wheelchair accessible seating available. There is parking available on our main side entrance. Our box office staff is happy to help you with ticket purchases, reservations, memberships, and will call tickets for performances. During performances, there are complimentary beverages and snacks in the lobby. Be sure to check out our Stage Door Lounge before performances and during intermission to enter contests, raffles, and giveaways!
